New Day Challenge Update –

By now you should have heard that we are in the midst of becoming an independent community foundation. The Denver Foundation has been an exceptional partner and friend to the Longmont Community Foundation for more than 10 years but we feel now is the time to forge our own path.

We’re excited about the change and the opportunities it will bring — from having your fund administered by people you know, to lowering the amount needed to establish a scholarship fund, to hiring an excellent investment management team that reports to our local Investment Advisory Committee and the Board of Trustees — this change will build a stronger community foundation to support the St. Vrain Valley.

Your local community foundation has been recognized by the IRS (our new Tax Id is 46-3894713) and the official name remains The Longmont Community Foundation. The mission and services of the Foundation will also remain the same.  We exist to improve life in the St. Vrain Valley through philanthropy and charitable leadership.  This mission is permanent and we are committed to helping the needs of our donors and of our community for now and forever.

The board’s unanimous vote to separate ushered in a host of new opportunities.  We will handle all of our own administrative affairs and through a lengthy process the newly formed LCF Investment Advisory Committee and Board of Trustees have hired excellent investment management services with their selection of Colorado State Bank and Trust.  While we are very excited by the changes, they do entail incurring some additional short-term expenses.  These include: Updates to our logo, website and marketing materials   Purchase of a new database/accounting system, hiring a part-time staff member to help with administrative duties, purchase of two new computers to assist our paid and volunteer staff with the work they do for the Foundation

Thankfully, we have received a generous challenge grant to help us raise additional funds to cover the expenses related to the transition.  An anonymous donor has provided a $10,000 match to the Foundation IF we can raise $25,000 by September 30, 2014.

This is why I’m writing this letter to you.  We are hopeful that you can help us meet the challenge and receive the additional $10,000 to help us with our transition.

Please consider making a tax deductible contribution of cash or appreciated stock to the New Day operating fund. Help strengthen the community by creating a strong foundation for Longmont and the St. Vrain Valley. I assure you a smooth transition and welcome any questions you may have regarding our change.  Please call me day or night to ask any questions you may have.  You may reach me at the office (303) 678-6555, on my cell (303)358-4327 or  eric@longmontfoundation.org

Thank you for your generous gift and thank you for supporting a New Day at The Longmont Community Foundation

Sincerely,
