Since 2013, Colorado FriendShip has been providing weekend food bags for food-insecure children in St. Vrain Valley schools through our IncrEdibles Program. These children receive school meals during the week but they may have little or nothing to eat at home over the weekend. The bags we provide contain breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack items for 2 days to help provide nutrition over the weekend so the children can return to school on Monday morning ready to learn. 1 in 6 children in Colorado do not receive adequate nutrition at home. Children who experience severe hunger are at increased risk for chronic health conditions, psychiatric distress, behavioral problems and learning delays. Our IncrEdibles food bags help to alleviate this. The bags are delivered directly to the children at their schools for them to take home. We are currently serving 650 children every week across 12 schools in the district.
Colorado FriendShip is located in Longmont. We are run almost entirely by volunteers.
