Lynne Harkness

Lynne Harkness’s parents were instrumental in starting the Southwest Kansas Community Foundation in Dodge City Kansas and this is what she cites as forming her strong belief in community foundations.

I found the Longmont Community Foundation after having been a volunteer ski instructor with Children’s Hospital Coloarodo’s program for children with disabilities for 30 years. When my body said I couldn’t do that anymore, I needed a new volunteer gig. I love learning about all the nonprofits in our community, who they serve, and what they do. I feel strongly that it’s important to serve those who are less fortunate. My service on the Foundation’s Board of Trustees allows me to help our community in a meaningful way.”

Lynne holds a Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy from Colorado State University. Although now retired, she practiced many years in schools and home health situations. She is an avid traveler, having recently sailed around the world with Semester at Sea as a Lifelong Learner with 500+ college students. We sailed for three and a half months, visited 12 countries and I came away with a much more hopeful attitude toward the future of our planet because of the students who were so brilliant and passionate

Lynne’s hobby is playing bluegrass guitar which she has been doing for 12 years. I believe that I couldn’t sing for many years, but one day I bought myself a guitar for Christmas and I have loved playing and singing ever since. Attending bluegrass festivals is my favorite thing to do during the summer.

An avid reader, Lynne has spent a lot of time recently studying the topic of racism after the tragic murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Lynne is divorced and the proud mother of her son Mitchell.
