Mission

We dramatically improve the experiences and outcomes of kids in foster care by engaging the community to support and sustain local foster and kinship families.

We engage businesses, faith communities, and community members to form “Foster Friendly Communities” that support, encourage, and sustain foster families. We work through 6 phases over 3 years of community engagement using these asset-based community development initiatives that work to create conditions where foster families and kids thrive, connected via our Foster Friendly mobile app, as an open-source platform where the community can collaborate and support these families.

More about this organization

We started in Colorado and have grown to be America’s Kids Belong, working in 10 states. We’re a remote organization, keeping overhead low. We chose Longmont as one of the communities we are investing in.

We currently have:

  • 26 businesses that are offering discounts to foster and kinship families through the Foster Friendly Mobile app
  • 7 Faith Communities that have become Foster Friendly and support local families
  • 6 Community Partners represented on the app
  • 43 SVVSD families that are using the Mobile app and receiving support from these local Foster Friendly partners
In April we started a collaborative group here in Longmont that went through a course together and decided on a project to collaborate on. We are doing a Foster and Kinship Appreciation event on Oct 4th at Left Hand Brewing. We currently have 62 people registered for the event. We will follow up that event with quarterly Foster Connect events for the families to come to. The kids will have a blast and the parents will get to connect with each other and with resources to support them. (see attached flyer)
