Longmont Food Rescue’s mission is to redistribute nutritious food that might otherwise go to waste to feed people experiencing food, housing, and financial insecurity, while educating local communities about food justice. Our no-questions-asked model addresses gaps in existing hunger relief services, while mitigating the environmental impacts of food waste. A foundational goal is to eliminate barriers to access, including any paperwork or proof of need, which increase stigma and can stop people from seeking hunger relief services. We envision a more equitable food system built on the conscientious collaboration of community members who are committed to a sustainable system of food practices.
In 2025, Longmont Food Rescue doubled our public food distributions, providing free food every Sunday, when other service hubs are closed. We also launched a new monthly distribution at the Longmont Senior Center to provide nutritious food for our 55+ community members, and our senior clients have more than doubled since it began. We’ve added 2 residential sites and 1 new support hub to our No-Cost Grocery Program, and we continue to expand our services by collaborating with partner organizations to offer free clothing, books, COVID tests, and masks alongside our food programs.
Looking ahead, we’re facing two concurrent crises: financial uncertainty from nationwide nonprofit funding cuts and surging food insecurity due to the $1.2 trillion reduction in SNAP and Medicaid benefits. These services were already a tenuous lifeline for too many in our community, and we anticipate even more people needing food access and nutritional support in the coming year. We are growing our programs but we need your help to feed our community!
